Sigríður Ásta Árnadóttir was born in 1974 and has a Diploma in Textile design from the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts. Since her graduation, Sigríður has worked as a free-lance designer, teacher, stylist and journalist.

Among Sigríður´s design are new robes for the Hallgrímskirkja Motet Choir, knitwear design for Ístex and illustrations for two Tourist Information Centres, one at Hellnar, Snæfellsnes and the other at Lake Mývatn in northern Iceland. However, over the past years Sigríður´s main design project has been her collection of recycled woolens, which she sells under the label of Kitschfríður. She regularly scavenges Reykjavík´s cupboards and second-hand stores, where she picks up old woolens and transforms them by dyeing, cutting, felting and embroidering to make completely new garments. The Kitschfríður line is both feminine and retrospective and typically consists of cardigans and skirts, plus accessories like hats, collars and bags. Since every design is hand-made and inspired by the raw material, no two pieces are alike. Kitschfríður's unofficial aim is to transform the typical black dress of Icelandic women by creating explosions of colour!

Sigríður´s writings have included articles on food and interior for magazines and newspapers, including Morgunblaðið and Hús og híbýli. She currently has a regular humorous column in women´s magazine Vikan, writing as Madame Kitschfríður about proper housekeeping, appearance and etiquette.
